How to Watch KBS1 & KBS2 Programs With a VPN (2024)

KBS1 and KBS2 are popular Korean channels, hosting top shows like Korea Sings and Immortal Songs. It’s only available in South Korea due to copyright and broadcast regulations, so you can only watch it if you’re in South Korea and have a South Korean IP address.

Technically, it’s possible to use a VPN to change the appearance of your IP address, so you can watch KBS1 and KBS2 if you’re not in South Korea. However, my team and I don’t condone this — you could be breaking KBS terms of use, and it could be considered copyright infringement.

If you want to use a VPN to privately watch KBS shows, many VPNs don’t work as proxy connections are often blocked. However, our team in South Korea has found several working VPNs, so you can stream KBS1 and KBS2 without issue.

How does a VPN work?

Virtual Private Network (VPN)
A VPN is a client-based program that allows your Internet-capable device to locate and connect to a remote computer located outside your current location. Depending on your purpose in using one, this can be in the same city or country or in another country.

VPNs serve the fundamental purpose of offering anonymity while using the Internet. They achieve this by directing your web traffic through an encrypted tunnel to a distant server. This server decrypts your web requests, assigns them a distinct IP address associated with the country where it is situated, and subsequently forwards your requests and uploads to the Internet.

As you browse pages, view pictures, download files, and interact with others on the Internet, those data packets are downloaded to the remote server. Once there, they are encrypted and sent through the VPN connection back to your location. Your computer’s VPN client decrypts them and makes them available.

How do I watch KBS1 and KBS2 with a VPN?

  1. Research the internet to find the best VPN provider for your needs, including speed, location, price, etc. Make sure the VPN has a track record of working with KBS channels and a large number of local South Korean servers.
  2. Download and install the VPN client onto your Internet-capable device of choice. Some VPNs allow you to install the client on multiple devices.
  3. Open a new connection with the VPN client and choose a local server in South Korea. Look for one with good speeds and preferably a low number of current users.
  4. Navigate to the KBS website and begin streaming your favorite KBS1 and KBS2 programs.

Important: My team and I do not condone behavior that breaks terms of service or infringes on copyright. The recommended VPNs won’t track or store your activity, so it’s your responsibility to use your VPN in a way that abides by local laws and regulations.
