VPN Proxy Master claims to be the fastest secure VPN in the world. If the 10m+ app downloads on the Google Playstore and the acclaimed 150m+ users is anything to go by, the VPN must be doing something right, I thought. Being optimized for speed and security simultaneously would be a great feat I wanted to see, test, and confirm.
After my tests, I wouldn’t score the VPN a top-grade VPN for security and speed. In terms of security, VPN Proxy Master is okay as it uses AES 256-bit encryption. Unfortunately, the speed is extremely slow on nearby and distant servers. Worst still, it couldn’t unblock popular streaming platforms or torrent during my tests.
However, you can check the service for yourself. VPN Proxy Master offers a free plan and a 30-day money-back guarantee. With these, you can test out the features and, if you opted for the premium plan, you can get a refund. After which I would recommend you check these top-grade VPNs for security and speed.
I was disappointed with VPN Proxy Master’s unblocking capabilities. My team and I could only unblock a handful of streaming sites like Netflix, HBO Max, and BBC iPlayer. Even after that, the streaming quality was overwhelmingly disappointing with frequent lags and pixelations.
Although VPN Proxy Master unblocked some streaming platforms, the streaming quality was poor. I unblocked my Netflix US account and watched Designated Survivor. However, I experienced pixelations and lags while I connected with the server in Dallas and Seattle. Even when I tested the optimized server for Netflix, there wasn’t any improvement in the quality of the stream.
In the same vein, I unblocked HBO Max within seconds during my tests. But when I tried to watch shows like Wahl Street, it buffered occasionally and as a result, I couldn’t enjoy the movie. I was displeased with this poor streaming quality and hoped it would be better for BBC iPlayer. Unfortunately, when my colleague in the UK tested the service with BBC iPlayer, it was worse. It buffered and had pixelations for almost every scene during his tests.
Apart from the lags, I was disappointed that VPN Proxy Master, despite its popularity, couldn’t unblock other popular streaming sites during my tests. I tested the normal US servers and the specialized servers. Sadly, none could unblock Hulu, Disney+, or Prime Video. I wondered why there are specialized servers if they simply don’t work — maybe for marketing purposes. Whenever I tried to access my account on those streaming services, the platform detected that I was using a VPN and gave an error message similar to the one I got when I tried to connect to Disney+.
If you need to access your favorite shows on these services like Hulu, Disney+, and Amazon Prime Video when traveling, then you’ll need a VPN that certainly unblocks all popular streaming sites. My go-to VPN when there’s a technical issue in accessing these services is Cyberghost. You can try Cyberghost to unblock all popular streaming platforms including Hulu, Prime Video, and Disney+. You even get a 45 days money-back guarantee to assure you that you’re buying confidently.
VPN Proxy Master wasn’t fast with nearby or distant servers. In fact, there was a huge drop in speed with servers far away from my location. Even though the closeby servers had speed results that appeared to be okay for streaming, I experienced lags while streaming on the platforms that it could unblock.
Before connecting to VPN Proxy Master, I had a base internet speed of 32Mbps. However, when I connected to the VPN, I got an average download speed of 8.9Mbps — a 72% drop in speed. This was disappointing since I expected better speeds. The server in London provided the best download speed at 17.63Mbps during my tests. That’s it, other servers I tested had subpar speeds. For instance, the server in Dallas had 9Mbps — a 71% drop, the server in Singapore had 8Mbps while that of Mexico had just 1.24Mbps — a 96% drop in speed. Even worse, the upload speed for all the servers that I tested was less than 1Mbps except for the server in Singapore at 1.75Mbps.
With such slow upload and download speeds, I couldn’t stream any shows lag-free or torrent quickly. In contrast, ExpressVPN provided me with lightning-fast speeds and I didn’t see a speed drop of more than 25% for upload and download.
I was able to game successfully with VPN Proxy Master without any noticeable lag. This was due to the low latency of 140ms and an upload speed of 1.75Mbps when I connected to the server in Amsterdam. This speed and latency are ideal for most games.
That said, you won’t get the same experience with other servers — particularly servers far away from your location. And depending on how heavy usage of CPU a game is, it may be slower when using VPN Proxy Master.
Speed determines how fast content uploads, so if you're torrenting or streaming, you want the speed to be somewhat identical to your regular internet speed. Since a VPN encrypts your data, it usually takes a bit longer to send your data back and forth, which can slow down your connection. However, if your ISP deliberately slows down your connection (also known as throttling) a VPN might increase your internet speed. Testing a VPN is somewhat pointless because new servers pop up and affect speed. Your speed can also differ according to your location, so your speed test might not match ours. Having said that, we tested the speed in numerous locations to provide you with the average.
VPN Proxy Master has an impressive network of servers in different countries. Depending on the app you use, the available server location changes. For instance, on the Android app, I counted 10 free servers located in the US and Germany, and 49 server locations in total for the premium service. The coverage includes North America, Europe, Middle East, Asia, South America, and Australia. The countries covered include Canada, Ukraine, the UK, the US, Germany, Netherlands, France, South Korea, Japan, Saudi Arabia, and more.
On the Windows app, I worked out 57 server locations, and also found additional server locations not available on the Android app. Countries like Taiwan, Turkey, South Africa, Romania, Latvia, Argentina, Bulgaria, Mexico, and more are available locations exclusive to the Windows app. It felt odd seeing different server locations available for different apps. There are specialized servers for streaming services like Netflix, Hulu, HBO Max, Fubo TV, Youtube TV, Hotstar, BBC iPlayer, and more. You’ll also find 3 specialized servers for P2P in Germany, Canada, and the US.
VPN Proxy Master provides top-grade security for all its apps. It offers OpenVPN (UDP/TCP), IPSec, IKEv2, and v2ray along with AES 256-bit encryption. Together, these security measures provide an encrypted means of communication to keep your data safe from hackers. The default protocol for the Android app is IPSec, iOS is IKEv2, and while the Windows app is OpenVPN. You can also manually switch between these protocols on your device.
For additional security, VPN Proxy Master has a killswitch to cut off your internet and prevent leaks. Although it’s turned off by default, my internet connection was cut off whenever I turned the VPN off. This meant I couldn’t connect to the internet with the VPN off even though I didn’t activate the killswitch. That said, you’ll find useful features like the Split Tunneling feature that allows you to bypass certain apps from the VPN tunnel, and WiFi protection to keep you safe from unsecured WiFi connections.
The VPN is based in Singapore — a country that has data protection laws. Since it is outside the 5/9/14 Eyes data-sharing alliance which compels VPN providers to share your information with governments, VPN Proxy Master appears to be good for privacy. Only that it can still share your information with foreign law enforcement if there’s a court order to do so.
Since there hasn’t been any independent audit of the no-logs policy, there’s no way to verify that the VPN would not share your personal information with governments. That said, I didn’t experience any DNS leaks when I was connected to the VPN servers.
VPN Proxy Master states that its service supports torrenting. It even offers P2P servers in 3 locations (in the US, Canada, and Germany). However, when I tried to connect with these servers, I couldn’t. I tried again after a few hours, but I still couldn’t get connected. I tested the normal country servers with torrenting. Although I could open the torrenting site, and started the downloads, the speeds dropped to 0 in less than 30 seconds and stopped.
Since I couldn’t get to download any file successfully with every server I tested, I wouldn’t recommend VPN Proxy Master for torrenting. There are better alternative VPNs with solid torrenting capabilities. For instance, you can use Cyberghost to torrent safely with the specialized servers that work. The speeds are fast and allow you to download a large file within minutes.
VPN Proxy Master would probably work in China. Since I don’t live in China, I couldn’t personally test the VPN there, so I reached out to customer support to find out if it would work there. I was informed that the VPN works in China but not in all regions.
The reason why some VPNs don’t work over there or only work in some regions is because the Great Firewall of China makes use of different rules for each region. So if you’re traveling to a region where VPN Proxy Master doesn’t work, I recommend using ExpressVPN instead. When a friend traveled recently to China for a business summit, ExpressVPN worked in all the regions that he visited.
VPN Proxy Master can be used on up to 6 devices per time. This should be okay if you just want to connect a few home devices like your smartphone, TV, and computer. However, if you’re a gadget junkie like me and need to connect more than 6 devices, then, you’d find this VPN limiting. To connect many devices, you can check out how IPVansih lets you connect an unlimited number of devices.
VPN Proxy Master works on popular operating systems. It has native apps for Windows, iOS, Android, and macOS. There are also apps for Amazon FireTV, Apple TV, Samsung TV, and LG smart TVs. It has a browser extension for the Chrome browser. However, there’s no way to set up the app on routers or gaming consoles.
I tested the app on my Windows Device and Android phones and was able to connect to a server in less than a minute. That said, the protocols support vary by operating systems, and different servers are available for different devices.
I had a seamless experience setting up VPN Proxy Master on all my devices. I was able to test the service on my Android and Windows devices. I only needed to download the app, launch it, and connected a server with one click. The interface was simple, navigation too was easy.
VPN Proxy Master allows for 3 support channels including email, live chat, and Help Center. I tested all channels and found helpful information in the help center. The live chat support was instant and I got responses within seconds. Similarly, I got a quick response in less than 1 hour when I reached out to the email support.
That said, I didn’t always get direct answers in some cases when on live chat. I had to rephrase my questions many times before customer support could give me a helpful response. If you want to get support help, you have to click the “Contact Us” link at the footer of the page and select the channel you want to get help with.
We personally test the customer support team of every VPN we review. This means asking technical question through the live chat feature (where applicable) and measuring the response time for email questions. Whether you need to connect to a specific server, change your security protocol, or configure a VPN on your router, finding a VPN with quality customer support should be important to you.
VPN Proxy Master has a free plan and 3 premium plans. The free plan allows you to connect with 10 server locations in 2 countries. There’s a 7-day free trial if you subscribe via Google Playstore or the iOS Appstore. The premium plan has a 1-month, 15-month, and 24-month plan. Payment methods include PayPal, Credit Cards, Bitcoin, and other methods like WebMoney, Oxxo, and Ovo.
Getting a refund isn’t easy even with the 30-day money-back guarantee. You can contact live chat support or send an email to request a refund. However, the technical support will have to troubleshoot your activity first before a refund would be offered.
VPN Proxy Master is popular but after testing it, I felt it didn’t live up to its hype. For basic use, the VPN allows you to access the web securely, unblocks some streaming sites, and has speeds okay for gaming. While you’ll find a good number of servers in a few locations, the VPN is largely overrated and expensive. It may share your data with foreign governments, I couldn’t download torrents with it, and experienced lags while streaming.
If this VPN spent more on providing solid service, it could end up being a top-rated service. For now, its features and capabilities don’t match its popularity. There are VPNs that are popular yet offer top-grade features and solid service. For instance, ExpressVPN is super-fast, works for P2P, has a large server network, and allows you to stream every popular streaming site in UltraHD.
Somewhat! VPN Proxy Master offers good security features and can unblock some streaming sites. It has apps for popular devices where you can connect up to 6 devices of yours. But its speeds weren’t great and it lacks good streaming quality that made it lag during my tests. I also couldn’t get it to torrent successfully.
Yes. It has a free plan with 10 server locations. You can also test out its paid plan on a 7-day trial if you subscribe from the App store and can opt for a 30-day money-back guarantee. However, if you want to use the money-back guarantee to get a refund, customer support will have to troubleshoot the service before you can get a refund.
