TgVPN is one of the more unique VPN services on the market. Rather than having a dedicated application that users use to access their servers, they work through the Telegram app. So instead of logging into the VPN software, you start a conversation with the TgVPN bot (@tgvpnbot) in Telegram, and a message comes through allowing you to choose your node connection.
TgVPN believes in protecting its customers’ personal information, and the company uses 256-bit AES security to encrypt data. While they may store some of your conversations (because the Telegram application uses cloud storage), they do not have access to the encrypted information. TgVPN’s design is to make Telegram security more robust.
Users can connect to TgVPN using any Telegram app, including the Windows, MacOS, iOS, and Android apps. While Telegram is a free service, TgVPN does have a nominal subscription fee. Subscription lengths are one month, three months, and six months, with costs starting at just $5 per month. The longer the subscription, the lower the per-month cost. And they allow three simultaneous connections per account.
Since this is not a traditional VPN service, it may not work with streaming sites like Netflix. However, they do not limit the traffic through their servers; therefore you can use Telegram as much as you want without worrying about slowdowns.
Speed determines how fast content uploads, so if you're torrenting or streaming, you want the speed to be somewhat identical to your regular internet speed. Since a VPN encrypts your data, it usually takes a bit longer to send your data back and forth, which can slow down your connection. However, if your ISP deliberately slows down your connection (also known as throttling) a VPN might increase your internet speed. Testing a VPN is somewhat pointless because new servers pop up and affect speed. Your speed can also differ according to your location, so your speed test might not match ours. Having said that, we tested the speed in numerous locations to provide you with the average.
TgVPN has servers in 6 countries.
Despite being a relatively new service, TgVPN does a good job of protecting against IP leakage. It also works fast, slowing down only marginally in speed tests. Of course, those tests may vary depending on the user’s ISP.
At this time TgVPN is limited to only six server locations, with no information on how many servers are at each location. Despite its limitations, it is a reasonable VPN option for those who are heavy Telegram users. It helps to bolster the security provided by Telegram, and helps customers feel more secure when using the application.
We personally test the customer support team of every VPN we review. This means asking technical question through the live chat feature (where applicable) and measuring the response time for email questions. Whether you need to connect to a specific server, change your security protocol, or configure a VPN on your router, finding a VPN with quality customer support should be important to you.
