While CrypticVPN is a decent VPN, you can get better quality VPNs at an affordable price. ExpressVPN, for example, offers premium VPN features for a fair monthly fee — so you don’t have to settle for less.
If you’re looking for a VPN that focuses prominently on security and speed, CrypticVPN may be your best option. Operating out of Amsterdam, the VPN is easy-to-use and requires little technical knowledge to get started. While it’s an excellent service for beginners and technophobes, it also comes with customizable features like port forwarding making it perfect for techies too.
In the spirit of anonymity, the company has a strict no logs policy and allows you to make payments without handing over every little detail about your personal life. CrypticVPN is available on OS X, Linux, and Windows. Connecting the VPN is straightforward, but if you’re struggling, a quick redirect to the company’s FAQ page should help you get all the answers you need.
While you will have a secure connection using CrypticVPN, the 2048-bit encryption means that you may not gain access to websites that are active VPN screeners, for example, Netflix. If you’re one of the thousands of people using a VPN just to gain access to Netflix, this won’t be the service for you! That said, all connections use the OpenVPN tunneling protocol, and you can choose between TCP 443 and UDP 1194.
While the company has some impressive connection speeds, it only has servers in 16 locations across 12 countries, many of which are in the UK and the US. Even though the website clearly states the VPN can unblock Netflix, we weren’t able to gain access to the site. We also couldn’t unblock BBC iPlayer.
Despite some downfalls, CrypticVPN is an overall good service that will allow you to watch YouTube videos with lightning speed and the total peace of mind that no one is snooping on you.`

Speed determines how fast content uploads, so if you're torrenting or streaming, you want the speed to be somewhat identical to your regular internet speed. Since a VPN encrypts your data, it usually takes a bit longer to send your data back and forth, which can slow down your connection. However, if your ISP deliberately slows down your connection (also known as throttling) a VPN might increase your internet speed. Testing a VPN is somewhat pointless because new servers pop up and affect speed. Your speed can also differ according to your location, so your speed test might not match ours. Having said that, we tested the speed in numerous locations to provide you with the average.

Downloading CrypticVPN is simple and fast. With just a few clicks, you can start browsing the web securely. While we had some issues connecting to a server the first time around, the FAQ page gave us all the answers we needed. As with most services, you can choose which server you’d like to connect to.
Even though you can choose servers, the VPN seems to have a mind of its own. While we could connect to our desired server most of the time, there were instances where it would connect to a server in a completely different country without any explanation.
