ShadeYou VPN Review 2025: Before You Buy, Is It Worth It?
ShadeYou VPN Overview
“2025 UPDATE! Unfortunately, ShadeYou is no longer available. Why not check out our list of the best VPNs in 2025 or find out more about our top recommendation, ExpressVPN.”
While P2P file sharing and torrenting are notoriously branded and prohibited by law in most countries, ShadeYou is one of the few VPN providers that are optimized for file sharing and torrent downloads thanks to their advanced encryption. The Netherlands-based provider is relatively new to the market, but has its merits, even though it falls back in some areas compared to its peers. ShadeYou VPN stands out by offering unlimited bandwidth, unlimited downloads, P2P and solid 1024-bit key encryption at decent prices and a wide range of payment options including anonymous payments like Bitcoin, and up to 5 simultaneous connections. On the other hand, speed is a major issue with this VPN, so if you’re aiming at doing lots of streaming with this VPN, we suggest that you look elsewhere.
Speed - 7.1 / 10
Why Most Speed Tests are Pointless & How We Correctly Test VPN Speeds
Speed determines how fast content uploads, so if you're torrenting or streaming, you want the speed to be somewhat identical to your regular internet speed. Since a VPN encrypts your data, it usually takes a bit longer to send your data back and forth, which can slow down your connection. However, if your ISP deliberately slows down your connection (also known as throttling) a VPN might increase your internet speed. Testing a VPN is somewhat pointless because new servers pop up and affect speed. Your speed can also differ according to your location, so your speed test might not match ours. Having said that, we tested the speed in numerous locations to provide you with the average.

User Experience - 8.4 / 10
There’s nothing special with ShadeYou VPN software clients. We downloaded their client for Windows to test its performance and ease of use. The installation process is very simple and takes only a few moments to set it up. The app’s interface is far from flashy and sleek. It’s very basic without animations or interactive frills, but it does its job properly. The settings menu is quite organized with different protocol selections for OpenVPN, kill switch, and DNS leak protection.
Before you make a final decision, we highly recommend you check out some alternative VPNs which may offer better features and prices.

How We Test Customer Support and Why Should You Care
We personally test the customer support team of every VPN we review. This means asking technical question through the live chat feature (where applicable) and measuring the response time for email questions. Whether you need to connect to a specific server, change your security protocol, or configure a VPN on your router, finding a VPN with quality customer support should be important to you.
Editor's Note: We value our relationship with our readers, and we strive to earn your trust through transparency and integrity. We are in the same ownership group as some of the industry-leading products reviewed on this site: ExpressVPN, Cyberghost, Private Internet Access, and Intego. However, this does not affect our review process, as we adhere to a strict testing methodology.
