Proxy.sh Review 2024: Before You Buy, Is It Worth It?

Proxy.sh Overview

“2024 UPDATE! Unfortunately Proxy.sh is no longer available. Why not check out our list of the best VPNs in 2024 or find out more about our top recommendation, ExpressVPN.”

While Proxy.sh is a decent VPN, you can get better quality VPNs at an affordable price. Surfshark, for example, offers premium VPN features for a super low monthly fee — so you don’t have to settle for less.

Proxy.sh may not have an attractive name, but it sure brings an attractive game. Part of Three Monkeys International Inc., Proxy.sh is a Seychelles-based non-profit company that’s been in operation for a number of years. Proxy.sh renders some interesting features, solid encryption, and very neat software clients for major platforms.
The company is very transparent about its policies and regularly publishes transparency reports and Warrant Canary reports, something we find very useful to maintain a solid client-base.
Stepping into the security department is a pleasure. Proxy.sh VPN is equipped with sturdy encryption to support Softether and OpenVPN with a 4096-bit DH key combined with AES-256-CBC cipher and SHA512 for authentication. It doesn’t stop just there, there are few more security tools offered by Proxy.sh to prevent any exposure whenever you’re connected including multi-hop connections, OpenVPN’s XOR to scramble any kind of Internet tracking, as well as kill switch and DNS leak protection. You also have the option to use Tor’s ofsproxy to secure your connection while on Tor browser.
Proxy.sh also has a good server network size across 50+ locations and delivers very good speeds together with 3 simultaneous connections and cross-platform support for group of platforms and devices. Their website is very organized and informative, but their support team is extremely slow and inadequate. It would’ve been a much better experience, if they had a live chat support team.

Why Most Speed Tests are Pointless & How We Correctly Test VPN Speeds

Speed determines how fast content uploads, so if you're torrenting or streaming, you want the speed to be somewhat identical to your regular internet speed. Since a VPN encrypts your data, it usually takes a bit longer to send your data back and forth, which can slow down your connection. However, if your ISP deliberately slows down your connection (also known as throttling) a VPN might increase your internet speed. Testing a VPN is somewhat pointless because new servers pop up and affect speed. Your speed can also differ according to your location, so your speed test might not match ours. Having said that, we tested the speed in numerous locations to provide you with the average.

User Experience

- 8.4 / 10

Even though you can connect to Proxy.sh through third party open source clients such as OpenVPN GUI, Proxy.sh developed its own OpenVPN software client for all major platforms called “Safejumper”. Safejumper isn’t a beauty pageant contestant. It’s a small app with an ordinary, but intuitive interface with a few settings and fields to make your adjustments and activate/deactivate features like kill switch, DNS and IP leak protections, or change DNS settings. You can even change the level of encryption, but it’s recommended to leave the default setting “RSA 4096-bit”. The only stand out feature in the app is the “Jump” button which allow you to randomly jump to the most optimal server for your location.

Proxy.sh might offer a good service at a reasonable price, but does it match up with other top VPNs? We find it hard to say “yes”. To be sure you’re choosing the right VPN for your needs, review this list of top recommended VPNs.

How We Test Customer Support and Why Should You Care

We personally test the customer support team of every VPN we review. This means asking technical question through the live chat feature (where applicable) and measuring the response time for email questions. Whether you need to connect to a specific server, change your security protocol, or configure a VPN on your router, finding a VPN with quality customer support should be important to you.
