What do we look at?

NEXTGenVPN Overview July 2020

NeXTGenVPN is a small VPN that tends to your basic needs.

The VPN uses encryption and OpenVPN for its security protocol, so it’s a good choice for privacy-conscious users, but you won’t get any extra security features, like a kill-switch.

NeXTGenVPN also offers NSA-proof secure email communication and file storage protection, making it the perfect choice for confidential and sensitive data.

They have a unique method of logging in. They don’t just have a username and password method but also have a unique digital key and certificate pair to make sure they offer a highly secure service. While it makes things secure, it also makes them more complicated.

There are three packages – Basic/Pro, Open VPN, and Flex VPN. Flex offers a pay-as-you-go approach for those users who don’t use VPN for long. While NeXTGenVPN is not one of the top players, their pricing is certainly higher than the big boys in the industry.

They don’t have an impressive network with servers in just 13 countries. All in all, it’s a decent VPN service with a small network and high prices. If you want better service for a cheaper price, we recommend looking at our popular VPNs.

Why Most Speed Tests are Pointless & How We Correctly Test VPN Speeds

Speed determines how fast content uploads, so if you're torrenting or streaming, you want the speed to be somewhat identical to your regular internet speed. Since a VPN encrypts your data, it usually takes a bit longer to send your data back and forth, which can slow down your connection. However, if your ISP deliberately slows down your connection (also known as throttling) a VPN might increase your internet speed. Testing a VPN is somewhat pointless because new servers pop up and affect speed. Your speed can also differ according to your location, so your speed test might not match ours. Having said that, we tested the speed in numerous locations to provide you with the average.

NeXTGenVPN VPN has servers in 13 countries.

NeXTGenVPN offers a zero-configuration software client for Mac OS X and Windows for the OpenVPN protocol.

In case of a VPN failure, it automatically reconnects to ensure that data never moves outside the protected VPN session. While it runs on most Mac versions, it doesn’t support Mac OS Sierra.

They don’t have a live chat for customer services. However, you can open a ticket and they will reply in a couple of business days. It’s not the user-friendliest service and installation is somewhat difficult for novice users.

How We Test Customer Support and Why Should You Care

We personally test the customer support team of every VPN we review. This means asking technical question through the live chat feature (where applicable) and measuring the response time for email questions. Whether you need to connect to a specific server, change your security protocol, or configure a VPN on your router, finding a VPN with quality customer support should be important to you.
