Ghost Path makes a great first impression, but there are some things to consider upon a closer look.
This VPN is firmly on the budget side, but that doesn’t stop it from offering excellent features, solid encryption, and a wonderful website. You may think the last one on the list isn’t super important, but having a well-organized home with precious info readily available is a serious advantage — and Ghost Path knows this.
Overall, this VPN comes across as a transparent provider, but one important aspect is kept somewhat hidden — Ghost Path has a reseller program. Sharing infrastructure with other VPNs is never good for users, even if it’s smooth sailing.
Other inconsistencies include Ghost Path’s ambiguous stance on P2P (torrenting in particular), the limited availability of important features like the kill switch, and the “free” trial which apparently comes only after subscribing to the VPN.
The bottom line? We commend Ghost Path’s professional approach, but if privacy is your top priority, there are better VPNs out there.
Speed determines how fast content uploads, so if you're torrenting or streaming, you want the speed to be somewhat identical to your regular internet speed. Since a VPN encrypts your data, it usually takes a bit longer to send your data back and forth, which can slow down your connection. However, if your ISP deliberately slows down your connection (also known as throttling) a VPN might increase your internet speed. Testing a VPN is somewhat pointless because new servers pop up and affect speed. Your speed can also differ according to your location, so your speed test might not match ours. Having said that, we tested the speed in numerous locations to provide you with the average.
Your experience with Ghost Path can be divided in two categories — whether you’re a Windows user or not.
If you are, then this VPN is very appealing. You benefit from a standalone Windows app, which looks good and runs great. Configuration boils down to a one-minute process. You also have a bunch of handy features at your disposal, including auto-connect, favorite servers, and a kill switch.
For other supported platforms, it’s not all sunshine and roses. Setup is manual without any dedicated apps, and much more laborious. The wonderful extra settings are missing here, and you’re essentially left with barebones VPN protection.
Other than that, customer support is on point, and the knowledge base is loaded with useful info. We recommend checking out Ghost Path’s blog.
We personally test the customer support team of every VPN we review. This means asking technical question through the live chat feature (where applicable) and measuring the response time for email questions. Whether you need to connect to a specific server, change your security protocol, or configure a VPN on your router, finding a VPN with quality customer support should be important to you.
