Ananoos VPN Review 2024: Before You Buy, Is It Worth It?

Ananoos VPN Overview

“2024 UPDATE! Unfortunately Ananoos VPN is no longer available. Why not check out our list of the best VPNs in 2024 or find out more about our top recommendation, ExpressVPN.”

Editors' Note: ExpressVPN and this site are in the same ownership group.

If you’re in a hurry, here’s the bottom line — You can get more servers globally, better VPN features, and 24/7 customer support with Surfshark for the same price or less. So why bother reading on?!

Ananoos VPN is a limited VPN solutions provider. To start with, they have servers only in one country – the Netherlands. Secondly, they provide support for only one protocol – OpenVPN.

While OpenVPN is the most secure and many people prefer using it, it does slow down the connection, so gamers and movie watchers generally want to take the middle ground and go for L2TP, which isn’t available with Ananoos.

With such few options, it is surprising that anyone would want to consider this VPN service. They don’t have a live chat feature on their website, but they do offer customer support through email and Skype.

They have 3, 6, and 12-month subscription options. Their plans are somewhat expensive. Considering their limited options, there is no reason to charge that much. Several VPN service providers offer large networks along with several other features for far less.

Another limitation of Ananoos is that they are located in the UK. Since the UK is a part of the Five Eyes, your data will be handed over to the government anytime they ask for it. Their privacy policy clearly states they keep no logs, and this might be the only good thing going for them.

The software associated with this VPN runs natively on Windows and Mac systems only. They provide configuration files for other OpenVPN compatible platforms like Linux and FreeBSD. But that’s about it. There’s no portable version or support for handheld devices.

Speed

Why Most Speed Tests are Pointless & How We Correctly Test VPN Speeds

Speed determines how fast content uploads, so if you're torrenting or streaming, you want the speed to be somewhat identical to your regular internet speed. Since a VPN encrypts your data, it usually takes a bit longer to send your data back and forth, which can slow down your connection. However, if your ISP deliberately slows down your connection (also known as throttling) a VPN might increase your internet speed. Testing a VPN is somewhat pointless because new servers pop up and affect speed. Your speed can also differ according to your location, so your speed test might not match ours. Having said that, we tested the speed in numerous locations to provide you with the average.

User Experience

- 8.4 / 10

While Ananoos is compatible with Windows, Mac, and Open Source OS like Linux or FreeBSD, it does not have a mobile version, making it useless for the smartphone.

The severe limitation of this VPN service is that it works only on desktop devices. Additionally, the VPN offers customer care via email and Skype, but that’s about it.

There are no video tutorials, screenshots, FAQ, or support sections for easy setup. While the registration is simple (you have to just to create your account and activate the service) the lack of transparency makes it a bit worrisome.

They provide downloadable keys and configuration files for Linux and other OpenVPN compatible OS like FreeBSD. They do not offer a YouTube channel either. So the only way to get help is by contacting them through email or Skype.

If you want ease of use, this isn’t the right VPN for you.

Before you make a final decision, we highly recommend you check out some alternative VPNs which may offer better features and prices.

Support

How We Test Customer Support and Why Should You Care

We personally test the customer support team of every VPN we review. This means asking technical question through the live chat feature (where applicable) and measuring the response time for email questions. Whether you need to connect to a specific server, change your security protocol, or configure a VPN on your router, finding a VPN with quality customer support should be important to you.
