Get a Free VPN Unlimited Trial With No Risk (Tested in 2024)

VPN Unlimited is among the few reputable VPNs that lets you download a 100% free trial without requiring you to provide your credit card details. This is especially useful if you just want to sign up for a short time to do some casual browsing or streaming on Netflix.
This VPN provides respectable speeds and military-grade encryption. However, even the paid version logs some of your data. It has been known to throttle speeds for certain activities. For a truly private VPN with no throttling, there are better ones with risk-free plans.

For the strongest security and privacy features and the fastest speeds of any VPN I tested, I recommend ExpressVPN. Plus, it has a free trial for iOS and Android and a money-back guarantee on all plans that lets you easily get refunded within 30 days.

VPN Unlimited Free Trial

KeepSolid VPN Unlimited

VPN Unlimited has a free 7-day trial with no credit card required, so you can test it without worrying about hidden charges or automatic subscriptions. However, this free trial is only available on the VPN’s website — you won’t find it in app stores.

With this free trial, you can try all of VPN Unlimited’s features including a kill switch, multiple security protocols, and the full range of servers. There’s also a 30-day money-back guarantee if you decide to keep the VPN for longer than the free trial period.

How to Get VPN Unlimited Free Trial

  1. Visit VPN Unlimited’s free trial page. Then fill in your email and password details.

  2. Download the VPN. Click “Get Now” and follow the prompts.
  3. Verify your email address. Open the link in your email to go to the download page.
  4. Download the app. Choose the right version for your device, then choose “Standalone” from the list of installation options.
  5. Install it and log in. Remember to use the email and password that you provided in the first step.

Does VPN Unlimited Also Have a Money-Back Guarantee?

If after the free trial ends you decide to purchase the VPN, all VPN Unlimited plans have a 30-day money-back guarantee. The refund policy is valid even if you use the free trial first.

To test it, I sent an online support ticket asking to get a refund for VPN Unlimited. Within 20 minutes the VPN confirmed my refund request via email. The money was back in my account in 5 days.

I also had to cancel the auto-renewal, but it was easy to do since a customer support agent emailed me a link to stop the automatic payments instantly. Just don’t forget to complete this step, since if you forget to click the link you’ll end up paying again.

Other VPN providers have stronger security features and higher speeds, and also include money-back guarantees that let you buy in confidence. For example, ExpressVPN approved my refund in under 3 minutes and has significantly faster performance with no throttling. It also has the same refund policy on long-term plans and short ones, making it one of the best month-to-month VPN options.

Does the Free Trial Unblock Streaming Services?

During tests of VPN Unlimited’s free trial, it had working specialized servers for streaming sites like Netflix, Hulu, HBO Max, BBC iPlayer, All4, and other platforms. They all worked flawlessly except for the Amazon Prime Video option, which wouldn’t load any content without location or proxy errors.

VPN Unlimited’s free trial instantly unblocks shows like Parks and Recreation on Netflix

While VPN Unlimited’s free trial was decent at unblocking Netflix US and some other streaming content, better VPNs like CyberGhost have more extensive optimized networks that worked consistently during my tests. I found options for lots of sites that aren’t available in VPN Unlimited’s menu. Plus, Cyberghost’s specialized servers have faster speeds for bufferless TV shows and movies, even in UHD.

How Good is VPN Unlimited?

1. Privacy & Security

VPN Unlimited is owned by KeepSolid, a company registered in the US. This is one of the worst locations for a VPN due to its widespread web surveillance, but KeepSolid promises not to keep any of your data. However, while it doesn’t log your online activities on websites and apps, the VPN does store some information.

I discovered that VPN Unlimited records the amount of data you use per session, your connection date and time, IP address, web browser, and operating system. They’re deleted automatically when you disconnect from the VPN, but I’d prefer to use one with a true zero-logs policy that never records anything to begin with.

The Android, Windows, Mac, and iOS apps include a selection of IKEv2, OpenVPN, and its own proprietary KeepSolid Wise protocols. OpenVPN is the best balance of security and speed. The Wise protocol is meant for highly-censored countries where Deep Packet Inspection (DPI) usually blocks VPNs.

There’s also DNS leak protection and an automatic kill switch to ensure your data isn’t exposed if the network connection is lost. For a full investigation of this VPN’s privacy and security features, you can check out this detailed VPN Unlimited review.

2. Servers and Locations

With VPN Unlimited, you can choose from over 400+ servers in 50+ countries globally. Its medium-sized network worked reliably regardless of which location I tested, and servers didn’t get crowded and slow down. That meant speeds were fast enough for UHD video and I had reliable connections even during peak streaming hours in my time zone.

However, the network isn’t as expansive as ExpressVPN’s, which has more than 3,000 servers in 105 countries. That gives you a lot more global locations for downloading, gaming, and unblocking global content from anywhere with even faster speeds.

3. Speeds

For my analysis, I used the “Optimal” setting to let the VPN optimize for the fastest speeds, which defaulted to the IKEv2 protocol and connected me to a server in the UK about 50 miles from me. Compared to my baseline performance (without any VPN connection), this “Optimal” server slowed my connection by around 15-20 percent.

Then I tested a server in the US overseas from my real location, and my speeds went down by at least a third. It was significant enough that pages took a little longer to load. However, despite this slowdown, I was able to stream shows with just 8-10 seconds of initial buffering.

VPN Unlimited servers in the UK and US were fast enough for lag-free streaming

4. Features

One of the most significant bonuses I found in the paid plans is a DNS Firewall that blocks malicious sites, ads, malware, and adult content. Just log into your account on the VPN Unlimited website to set filters regarding which web content you want to stop from loading. Other features include a kill switch that automatically ends your browsing session if your connection to the VPN drops and DNS leak protection to keep your data hidden.

If you want to only use a VPN for certain online activities, VPN Unlimited for Android has a split tunnel. This lets you access your Netflix account via the VPN while using your banking app with your own IP address. Now you can get into your financial accounts without setting off fraud alerts while you’re abroad.

The VPN also offers paid bonus features like a Personal Server and a Personal IP address. The Personal Server option costs an additional $28.99 a month or $289.99 a year, and the Personal IP address is $14.99 a month or $149.99 a year. It’s pretty competitive pricing for additions that are quite rare for VPN providers.

5. Compatibility

VPN Unlimited is compatible with most common devices and operating systems including:

  • Windows
  • Mac
  • Linux
  • Android
  • iOS
  • Amazon Fire Stick and Fire TV
  • Apple TV
  • Chrome, Firefox, Edge, and Opera browsers

The different account tiers let you use 1, 5, or 10 devices simultaneously. You can also pay extra to extend the limit to up to 15 platforms, starting from $0.99 per month for each extra simultaneous connection.

I found all of VPN Unlimited’s apps very straightforward — the main window displays a big Start/Stop button and a drop-down menu to select different servers. On Windows, Linux, Android, and iPhone, I was able to install and use the VPN within a few minutes. I never had connection issues regardless of which server I tested.

6. Torrenting

On the VPN Unlimited server menu, there are options optimized for torrenting. However, this isn’t a great torrenting VPN as the company explicitly discourages the activity. In KeepSolid’s terms of use it says, “the primary use of KeepSolid VPN Unlimited is not to download torrents, but to offer online security.”

Also, the company’s help pages say “there are limited cases when our technical team has to subside connection speeds due to torrenting.” It isn’t clear how much throttling VPN Unlimited does, but it isn’t fair for your speeds to be reduced for legally downloading non-copyrighted files.

That’s why I recommend ExpressVPN for torrenting for its super-fast speeds, unlimited bandwidth, and fully-audited privacy and security features. All of its servers are optimized for torrenting, so you can always find a fast one whether you’re downloading or uploading without any speed throttles. Just keep in mind that I don’t condone using torrents to share anything illegal, like copyrighted content or cracked software.

7. Customer Support

I tested VPN Unlimited’s 24/7 live chat, email, and online help center. The website has lots of helpful FAQs, manuals, and guides on using the VPN for specific purposes. The live chat responses were always helpful.

The problem was that outside of 9am to 5pm EST, it took a while to get a reply. Sometimes I waited up to an hour to get an answer to my question if I reached out to a live chat agent after 5pm. During normal business hours, support agents usually replied in 3 minutes or less.

8. Pricing & Plans

The main difference between VPN Unlimited plans is the duration. Each of the subscriptions let you install the VPN on up to 5 devices at a time and are covered by the 30-day money-back guarantee.

  • $4.99 for 7 days
  • $9.99 for 1 month
  • $5.00 a month for a 1-year subscription
  • $2.77 a month for a 3-year subscription
  • $99.99 for a lifetime subscription

If you want to use VPN Unlimited on more than 5 devices at once, you can pay extra to add more connections to your plan:

  • 1 additional device for $0.99 a month, or $9.99 a year
  • 5 additional devices for $2.99 a month, $29.99 a year, or a one-time payment of $99.99 for a lifetime
  • 10 additional devices for $5.99 a month, or $59.99 a year

FAQs on the VPN Unlimited Free Trial

Who owns VPN Unlimited?

VPN Unlimited is owned by KeepSolid. While the best VPN providers I found are transparent about their ownership, the only information I could find online about KeepSolid is that they’re based in the US. From my experience, this is a bad sign when it comes to looking for a trustworthy VPN.

Instead, I recommend a VPN provider based in a more privacy-friendly location like ExpressVPN. It’s based in the British Virgin Islands where (unlike the US), there’s no web surveillance and the government doesn’t share your online data with foreign intelligence agencies.

Is VPN Unlimited good for torrenting?

No, VPN Unlimited isn’t the best VPN for torrenting. Other VPNs I tested like ExpressVPN and CyberGhost have much faster speeds and stronger security features. VPN Unlimited warns in its terms of use that it reserves the right to limit speeds on P2P networks, and its privacy and security features haven’t been audited.

Another issue with VPN Unlimited is that it throttles speeds if you torrent regularly. Although its apps have P2P-optimized servers, the company discourages you from using them even though you’re only downloading legal, non-copyrighted files. Keep in mind that I don’t condone using VPNs to violate copyright or share illegal content.

Is VPN Unlimited safe?

Yes, VPN Unlimited is a safe VPN. It has many privacy and security features such as 256-bit encryption, which is used by the military and has never been broken. It also includes essentials like an automatic kill switch and DNS leak protection.

However, the company’s dedication to privacy is weaker than many other VPNs. It may not keep you 100% anonymous. KeepSolid admits to logging certain types of data, and its safety features haven’t yet been independently audited. If top-notch security and privacy are a top priority, ExpressVPN is a better choice.

Is VPN Unlimited really free?

No, VPN Unlimited isn’t one of the truly free VPNs because you have to pay to keep using it after the 7-day free trial period. However, the money-back guarantee lets you try it without risk.

If you’re interested in using a faster, more secure VPN for a while and then getting a refund, CyberGhost is a better option. It has high speeds, strong safety and privacy features, and a generous refund window of 45 days so you can use CyberGhost for free.

Final Word

If privacy isn’t a top priority, VPN Unlimited’s free trial is a decent option to get a VPN for a few days to watch Netflix. I like how it lets you get started without providing your payment details, which is rare among free VPN trials. Its servers perform well for simple tasks such as browsing and streaming. However, it lags behind the top VPNs I’ve tried, which are equally budget-friendly or nearly so, in terms of speed.

Since protecting your online security and privacy is essential, I’d recommend another option since VPN Unlimited logs some of your data. For example, ExpressVPN offers unmatched security and privacy features and speeds, along with a generous 30-day refund policy. If you change your mind, getting your money back is hassle-free.
